SHOT CLOCK NEWS FOR UIL HIGH SCHOOLS IN TEXAS
During the UIL/Legislative Council meetings in Round Rock, June 10, 2026, TABC’s Executive Director, Johnnie B. “Hawk” Carter, presented TABC’s proposal for the use of the Shot Clock which was agreed to by the UIL/Legislative Council in the following manner: During the 2026-2027 season, 35 second clocks may be used in Varsity tournaments if agreed upon by both coaches prior to the game. The UIL staff was directed by the Council to come up with a plan to phase in the use of the shot clock for the 2028-2029 school year, by the October 2026 Legislative Council meetings.
UIL 2026 Presentation at the TABC Clinic
TABC member basketball coaches and non-members are encouraged to watch the UIL’s presentation this past week-end at the TABC Clinic in San Antonio. With nearly 1900 attendees, 16 great speakers, four All-Star games, and the Texas HS Basketball Hall of Fame Banquet at the host hotel, Doubletree By Hilton San Antonio Airport on Saturday night, I would like to thank all of the vendors, staff, St. Mary’s University, Paul Taylor Fieldhouse, NISD, and all of the volunteers that helped to make it a special week-end!
